Heartless by Marissa Meyer (Spoliers)

Catherine may be one of the most desired girls in Wonderland and a favorite of the unmarried King, but her interests lie elsewhere. A talented baker, she wants to open a shop and create delectable pastries. But for her mother, such a goal is unthinkable for a woman who could be a queen.

At a royal ball where Cath is expected to receive the King’s marriage proposal, she meets handsome and mysterious Jest. For the first time, she feels the pull of true attraction. At the risk of offending the King and infuriating her parents, she and Jest enter into a secret courtship.

Cath is determined to choose her own destiny. But in a land thriving with magic, madness, and monsters, fate has other plans – Goodreads

This is a easy 5/5 stars for me. Marissa Meyer has done an amazing job recreating Wonderland from the animals working in shops and wearing clothes to the magic. It’s difficult to talk about this book with giving away spoliers so be warned.

We all know that this book is about how the Queen of Hearts became who she is so we know this story isn’t going to end nicely.  From the beginning we discover that Catherine and her family are high on the social ladder and that the King of Hearts wants to marry her, however she meets Jest the court joker. You can not help but root for the couple through out the story and you fall in love with them. The way Meyer has written Jest, it’s heartbreaking to know what will happen to him in the end.

Like I said, it’s difficult to talk about this book and what it’s about without giving it away. Obvisiouly I won’t go into details about what happens and there is alot more to the story then just Catherine and Jest, but I found that that is what sticks in your head more about this book.

I couldn’t put this book down and read it in a week (for me that is really quick due to work and being a slow reader) It is most certainly a must read if you like wonderland even if you will get your heart ripped out.
